Can we count on your support?

It’s not just on a global scale that Leeds is at the forefront of climate change and sustainability. Sustainability is at the very heart of what drives this university. Our values and our ethos are all about educating the future generations who will manage this fragile planet of ours – the future leaders and politicians, the policy makers and the innovators.

Our position as a leading institution in climate change will inevitably mean more and more change which we ask you all to support. This isn’t just something we study. This is who and what we are.

There are over 40, 640 staff and students at the University of Leeds, so seemingly small actions by each of us can add up to big savings in energy used. We understand that individual actions are only part of the solution, and our carbon management plan outlines other initiatives for reducing our carbon emissions by 35% by 2020/21.

Climate Week 2012

How is Leeds Helping the World Posters

This year’s Climate Week is about selling the positives of sustainability. Where is our combined research taking us, what would a low carbon University look like and how would a sustainable transport system benefit us?

For one week we will be welcoming you into our pop-up cafe located on University square to feedback your vision of a sustainable University and have a chat with the team. At lunch time there will be some bike powered music to help your creative thinking, as well a chance to have a chat and a cup of tea. We are also using the week to promote how University research is having a positive impact on sustainability with posters located around the University highlighting individual research. The week will also be split into themes with Monday ‘Buy local’, Tuesday ‘Sustainable Transport’, Wednesday ’Italladdsup’, Thursday ‘Get involved’ and Friday ‘Biodiversity’. For Environmental Co-ordinators, Green Impact teams and those interested in joining the two schemes there will be an informal meet with drinks and nibbles on the Wednesday evening at 4pm. The event is being run in conjunction with LUU and events will also be arranged within the Union building
